Founded by arts writer and activist Jennifer Rabin (Willamette Week, Oregon ArtsWatch, Visual Art Source, Hyperallergic), Art Passport PDX is a free program to get people engaged in the visual arts and give them a chance to win $1600 to spend at Portland galleries. To participate, members of the community collect stamps from the eight participating galleries to fill their art passport (available at Upfor and other participating galleries). Participants collect stamps before the June 15th deadline by having conversations with gallery staff about their exhibitions. Learn more about participation here.
In addition to demystifying the white-box gallery world, one of the goals of the program is to nurture a new generation of art collectors. This includes spreading the word that most galleries accept payment plans, which means that it's possible to purchase one-of-a-kind art for small monthly payments. Upfor has put together this collection of works ranging from $200 – $1600 for first-time collectors to peruse, and you can read our purchase policies here. While not all of these works are on view in the main exhibition, these and other works are viewable in the gallery office, so please ask to see them when you visit.
