The appropriately titled Endings is Blake Shell's final curatorial endeavor at The Art Gym at Marylhurst University. Endings features work by Bobbi Woods and Upfor artist Srijon Chowdhury.
Endings opened January 16 and remains on view through March 4, 2018. It overlaps with Chowdhury's forthcoming solo exhibition at Upfor, The Coldest Night, which opens February 28, 2018.
Ashley Stull Meyers is now curator and director at The Art Gym as Shell focuses on her role as executive director at Disjecta Contemporary Arts Center.
Chicken Coop Contemporary, a project space run by artist Srijon Chowdhury and partner Anna Margaret, and the Schemers, Scammers and Subverters Symposium, a one-day event planned for 2018 and conceived by artists Ralph Pugay and Roz Crews, were awarded grants from the Precipice Fund.
The Precipice Fund, which is administered by the PICA as part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Re-granting Program, focuses awards on projects that emphasize community engagement over individual achievement. Chowdhury and Pugay, parallel to and often within their individual practices, regularly experiment with ways to engage, collaborate and thoughtfully support their communities. These projects don't typically mesh with a commercial gallery model, which is one of the many reasons why granting programs like the Precipice Fund are vital to the arts.
Congratulations to all the 2017 Grant Recipients!
