At once humorous and unsettling, Ralph Pugay's paintings depict absurd narratives in which the mundane and fantastic converge. Incongruous symbols, ideas and cultural norms collide unexpectedly, resulting in perverse situations or outright catastrophe. For Pugay, the work celebrates odd thoughts and fleeting phenomena that are normally disregarded as incidental, like daydreams.
Ralph Pugay received an Individual Artist Fellowship award from the Oregon Arts Commission (2014).
